Drew was coming out to visit from the East for just a few days, and I had been stressing about where to take him ski touring for several weeks. I wanted to show him a good time, and I was worried about all sorts of variables that could make my plans go awry. What if the weather was bad? Or, what if the snow wasn't fun to ride? Or, what if there wasn't any snow to ride at all?!

Thankfully, Drew is a laid back fella who was more than pumped to just get out and explore some new terrain, and I figured perhaps the best plan of action was to give him a little sample of everything! Within just a few hours drive of my front door I can easily access an near infinite amount of backcountry ski terrain spread across a wide variety of biomes. After a late night arrival, we were up and driving early towards our first destination, the Toiyabe Mountains in the Great Basin.

Specifically, we were gunning for Bunker Hill, perhaps the most understated geographic name in the country. At almost 11,500' Bunker Hill is the high point of the northern portion of the Toiyabes, and the 22nd highest peak in the entire state. Our general plan for the day was simply to summit, and look for a couple good lines.
